Word of the Day:KOAN < Ko-ahn > N., A riddle with no logical solution.
Leslie Fredrick read an excerpt from the novel "A Year by the Sea" by Joan Anderson (14:18). She completed Project #4, Read Out Loud, from the Advanced Manual Specialty Speeches.
Jay Discount gave a "hip pocket" speech, talking about his adventures in bicycling (8:00). He used his bruises as props and cautioned his listeners about how not to ride safely (avoid "tumblesaulting"). Both speakers received round-robin evaluations.
For Table Topics, Doug Cloutier offered speakers a choice; either "finish a sentence" or act out a "charade" (without words). Volunteers selected topics at random. For "charades," speakers were:
Leslie Fredrick, "Ice Skate"; Richard Derksen, "Eat a plate of spaghetti"; Richard Frantz, "Dress for work"; Sharon Roth, "Sing in an opera."
For "finish a sentence," speakers were:
Ruth Zafian, "Fatherhood means ____ "; Jay Discount, "Things go wrong when ____"; Nathan Jaycox, "The worst problem in the world ____"; Paul Young, "The best place to be ____"
